lots of happening in Tupelo –
So far there are 59 sporting events planned in Tupelo on my list.
I know there are several more events that will be added before the year is out. These are a diverse range of sporting events from running to baseball to cycling to ultimate Frisbee.
Want to know what’s all on the calendar or what is going on week to week. Be sure to check out the calendar on www.tupelo.net
What events are you looking forward too?
Also what events would you like to see come to Tupelo?
Great Weather we are having right now, it’s time to play Golf, tennis, football, and SOFTBALL… that’s right, Wallace State from Hanceville Alabama and Mississippi State University Softball teams will be traveling to Tupelo on Sunday October 16th, 2011 to play at Veterans Park. We want to welcome Coach Jayne Clem of Wallace State, and Coach Vann Stuedeman of MSU to Tupelo – .
We are very excited to be able to host these two schools in Tupelo. Wallace State is a perennial power in Junior College Softball. What an opportunity for Tupelo Park and Recreation to show off their wonderful complex at the highest level.
Baseball Playoffs – Well the Braves choked away, and the Cardinals capitalized and now hold a 2-1 lead over the Brewers in the NLCS. BTW- I want a Cardinals/Rangers World Series
Football Season – Are you going to www.tupelosports.net every week to vote on your classic call of the week for MSU/Ole Miss – someone will win 2 Egg Bowl Tickets, and a night stay at a hotel in Tupelo.
Pigskins in the Park has been announced as October 29, 2011 at FairPark. Ole Miss is playing Auburn and MSU is playing Kentucky. Make your plans to come watch these games at FairPark, bring your family and have a great time.
Have a great sports week – until next time
My Favorite time of the year is coming upon us.
Cooler Weather – MLB Playoff run – Football
After the summer that we have had – with the about two week stretch where 110 degree temperature was very commonplace – we are due for some great 70-75 degree weather, great tailgating weather.
MLB Playoffs stretch run – Several teams are fighting for their playoff lives.
Prior to the MLB Season my picks were:
AL Division Winners – Red Sox, Twins, Angels, & the Wild Card Yankees
NL Division Winners – Phillies, Brewers, Giants, & the Wild Card Braves
I may have made some pretty good picks, but it seems the Twins are not going to have a chance as they are 15 games out in the AL Central to the Tigers.
I anticipate great baseball in the next 5 weeks.
Football in North Mississippi
Football Expectations are very high. Teams are posturing themselves for a post season run. North Mississippi plays a lot of good football. From many high schools, to the Community colleges, to the SEC schools, we have Thursday thru Saturday nights to watch this stuff.
New Divisions in High School Football – how will this affect your team, or will it at all?
Itawamba and Northeast both have high expectations as they should have – what are your thoughts?
Will Mississippi State and Coach Mullen continue to thrive in the heavily weighted SEC West – can they go bowling in back to back years for the first time in 12 years?
Will the Ole Miss defense surprise everyone this fall? Will they bowl this post season? Can they turn around this year like MSU did last year?
I expect Bowl games for both Ole Miss and MSU – Wouldn’t it be great for both teams to be bowl eligible before they play the Egg Bowl this November?
Don’t forget the CLASSIC CALLS OF THE GAME promotion that TupeloSports.net does.
We will have two classic calls from Ole Miss and Mississippi State on our website each week for you to vote on a winner to be aired on the coaches’ show each week.
By voting in the contest you are automatically entered in a contest to win 2 Egg Bowl Tickets and a night in Tupelo, vote every week.
You can look on our site on Monday for the contest.
As Always – your comments are welcome
Over the past 75 days a lot of things have changed in Tupelo’s Sports World, and I am one of those changes. Coming to the Tupelo Convention and Visitors Bureau has been a great opportunity. Spending the previous seven years in Tupelo running events at the Parks and Recreation Department has given me the opportunity to meet and get to know the travel/tourism business and the sports events rights holders industry. There has been virtually no setback in my transition to the Tupelo CVB.
Numerous events have kept our hotels and restaurants have been busy. New event planning during this time has been crucial. We want year round activities that will keep you coming to Tupelo. We know we have the ability to accommodate a lot of organizations with the venues that we have in and around Tupelo and we are lucky to be able to offer. We want these events coming to our city to see what we can offer them.
Relationships with the organizations and groups that currently do business in Tupelo are also crucial to the event planning process, we must know what’s available and what we must keep on the calendar, so we can plan accordingly when the new opportunities come calling.
I look forward to helping sports grow in Tupelo. The groundwork has been laid by the ones before me, and I plan to continue with that path.
What sports do you enjoy playing/watching?
I look forward your feedback.

AT&T / BancorpSouth Gum Tree 10K is coming this weekend. It’s the 34th running of the event. The race also features a 2K Fun Run and Walk. Check it out at www.tupelorunningclub.net for more information.
The Tupelo High School Golf Team is leading by 30 strokes going into the final 18 holes, (I believe that lead is safe as long as I don’t have to pick up a club and put one in the fairway 300 yards away.)
The Tupelo High School Baseball team has advanced to play Madison Central in the 6A North Half Finals.
And speaking High school Baseball- we have several area teams that are playing for the North Half
Falkner in 1A
Mantachie and Hamilton in 2A
Mooreville and Ripley in 3A
Amory and North Pontotoc in 4A
Oxford in 5A
In area High School Fast Pitch North Half Finals:
West Union and Wheeler in 1A
Hatley and East Webster in 2A
Nettleton and Mooreville in 3A
North Pontotoc in 4A
Congrats to all local teams and good luck
